Concord Naval Weapons Station project moves forward with new master developer

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 19:26:30 GMT

CONCORD — Officials have — after multiple attempts — chosen a master developer to begin the decades-long work of transforming the former Concord Naval Weapons Station into tens of thousands of homes and millions of square-feet of schools, offices, shops and restaurants. The Concord City Council — acting as the Local Reuse Authority — unanimously approved Brookfield Properties’ massive 2,300-acre reuse plan in a four-hour special meeting Saturday. The vision for roughly half of the existing, contaminated 5,046-acre site along the Sacramento River is a massive mixed-use and transit-oriented community — the largest development currently underway in the Bay Area.Notably, the New York-based developer and real estate giant has agreed to designate at least 25% housing on the inland site as affordable, hire 40% of its construction workforce from within Contra Costa County and prioritize connecting the community to the nearby BART station within the first phase of construction. The decision mar...

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 19:26:30 GMT

SANTA CLARA — As beloved as Trey Lance was in two seasons with the 49ers, Friday’s trade did not exactly catch players off-guard, not after Brock Purdy seized the starting job with last season’s brilliance and not after Sam Darnold was announced Wednesday as the No. 2 quarterback ahead of Lance.A day later, the 49ers formally announced Lance’s trade to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick, pending a physical.Coach Kyle Shanahan, after Friday’s preseason finale, described what he saw in the players’ sanctuary known as the locker room, where he talked to players before kickoff and alerted them postgame of awaiting questions from the media.“It was fine,” Shanahan said Saturday on a media conference call. “Guys saw (the news) earlier in the day. I’m in the locker room way before (kickoff) and a bunch of players are, so I got to talk to a bunch of guys. Trey came over here, John (Lynch) and I gave him the news personally. He saw...

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — David Blough had a touchdown pass and a rushing score in a second-half rally by the Arizona Cardinals to beat the Minnesota Vikings 18-17 in their final preseason game on Saturday.Zach McCloud, who joined the team only four days ago, had three of Arizona’s six sacks of Minnesota rookie Jaren Hall.Davion Davis caught the touchdown pass from Blough, who spent last season on the practice squad with the Vikings and was vying for a spot on an unsettled Cardinals’ depth chart with Kyler Murray still in rehab mode from a torn ACL in his right knee late last season.Hall, a fifth-round draft pick out of BYU, had his most efficient performance to date in his bid to make the team behind Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullens. The Vikings haven’t kept a third quarterback on the active roster coming out of training camp in seven years.Hall went 16 for 27 for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception and rushed six times for 21 yards. Deshaun Watson leads the Browns to a pair of TDs in a 33-32 preseason loss to the Chiefs

Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 19:26:30 GMT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Deshaun Watson led Cleveland on back-to-back touchdown drives, capping one with a toss to tight end David Njoku, before the Kansas City Chiefs’ backups overcame two pick-6s from their quarterbacks and rallied for a 33-32 victory over the Browns on Saturday in the exhibition finale for both teams.Browns kicker Cade York, whose job could be on the line after a tough preseason, gave them the lead with a 40-yard field goal with 4:23 to go. But the Chiefs quickly drove the other way, and Harrison Butker hit from 44 yards to regain the lead.York had another chance with less than a minute left, but his 43-yard attempt was partially blocked and never had a chance.Watson played sparingly in the Browns’ first three preseason games, so coach Kevin Stefanski gave him the entire first quarter against Kansas City (2-1). There were plenty of miscues, including a pair of fumbled handoffs, but the $230 million quarterback also provided some highlights once he sett...

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles anchored the U.S. to back-to-back victories in the 4×100 Saturday, giving the Americans a sweep of the short relays at the world championships for the first time since 2007.For Lyles, it closed out a 3-for-3 championships. He’s the first man since Usain Bolt in 2015 to win the 100, 200 and 4×100 at worlds. When Lyles crossed the line, closing out a lap of 37.38 seconds for the U.S., he lifted three fingers in the air to punctuate what he’s done.Bolt won all three races at three championships, and also at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Now, Lyles will be trying to do it in Paris in 2024.The men stayed on the track to watch the women, and when Richardson crossed, lead runner Christian Coleman came out and tackled the 100-meter champion and they fell to the track. Richardson popped right back up and everyone laughed. She will leave Budapest with her two golds, plus a bronze in the 200.The U.S. women finished...
