A bill with Atlanta alt heroes Manchester Orchestra is a superb idea.We spoke to Jimmy Eat World in December, just prior to their Almost Acoustic Christmas appearance.   Frontman Jim Adkins told us that, “We’re always working on material. I don’t know exactly what form it will look like when we choose to release that material. I don’t know. We’ve been trying to meet people where they’re at with what we think is the way people consume music these days, and by and large that’s by track instead of album. So I guess our current operating mode is to see how that goes. But that’s not going to be forever. Personally, there’s a reward about putting together a body o...

Working from home could wipe $800 billion from office values globally

London  — Remote work risks wiping $800 billion from the value of office buildings in major cities worldwide by 2030 as the post-pandemic trend pushes up office vacancy rates and drives down rents, according to a new report.Office attendance has stabilized at 30% below pre-Covid norms and only 37% of workers are going into the office every day, McKinsey Global Institute said in a report Thursday. The research adds to a string of recent signs that lasting changes to working habits because of the pandemic are hurting the value of commercial real estate — a market also under strain from rising interest rates. Last month, HSBC (HBCYF) announced plans to halve the size of its global headquarters, giving up its imposing tower in London’s Canary Wharf business district for a much smaller building close to the city center.RELATED: Real estate report reveals Silicon Valley’s weakest office markets“Hybrid work is here to stay,” McKinsey said. “Urban real estate in superstar cities aroun...

Republican senator should drop his ‘irresponsible’ protest and OK military nominees, Biden says

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 05:59:39 GMT

HELSINKI (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday said it is “irresponsible” of a Republican senator from Alabama to block confirmation of military officers in protest of a Defense Department policy that pays for travel when a service member has to go out of state to get an abortion or reproductive care. “He’s jeopardizing U.S. security by what he’s doing,” Biden said of Sen. Tommy Tuberville. “It’s just totally irresponsible in my view.” More than 260 nominations are stalled by Tuberville, including Biden’s pick for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, America’s top military officer. The U.S. Marine Corps is currently without a confirmed leader for the first time in a century because of the block. It also affects scores of one-, two- and three-star officers who are assigned to new base commands.“I’d be willing to talk to him if I thought there was any possibility of changing his ridiculous position,” Biden said during a press conference with the pr...
