APD: Officer involved in fatal North Austin shooting

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A man is dead after being shot by Austin Police Department officers in north Austin Sunday night. According to Interim Police Chief Robin Henderson, APD got a call around 8 p.m. that a man was threatening his wife and child with a gun inside an apartment in the 9000 block of Northgate Boulevard, between Highway 183 and West Rundberg Lane. Henderson said officers tried to get the man to come out, but he wouldn't. Around 8:30, officers saw the man on the balcony with the gun and fired a "less lethal" weapon at him, then he went back inside. APD called in the SWAT team, but before it arrived, officers were worried the woman and child were in danger and entered the apartment themselves, according to Henderson. Henderson said as officers entered the apartment, the suspect began firing a gun at the officers, who returned fire, hitting the man. Officers tried to save the man's life, but he died. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Opening statements begin Monday in the trial of Austin Police Officer Christopher Taylor, who was charged with murder in the death of Mike Ramos. Taylor shot and killed Ramos, 42, during a confrontation with police back in April 2020 at a south Austin apartment complex parking lot. ST. LOUIS - There were multiple incidents of gun violence over the weekend in the city of St. Louis, including two murders and two children shot. One of the latest crimes was a homicide late Sunday night.It's known that the victim in the case was an adult male and police are still searching for the killer Monday morning. This all unfolded on Gravois Avenue and Cherokee Street in the Tower Grove East neighborhood. Officers got the call just before 11:00 p.m. Sunday. Authorities told FOX 2 that the victim was found shot on the sidewalk. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
