DENVER (KDVR) -- One person was shot and killed in the area of 6th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive Sunday morning.The shooting took place Sunday before 8 a.m. and police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Uriel Ríos-Avila, 32, was arrested for an investigation of first-degree murder.Police said Ríos-Avila and the victim knew each other and that the preliminary investigation determined Rios-Avila rode on a bicycle and shot the victim. DENVER (KXRM) — Richard Fierro received an award from the American Red Cross in Denver on Saturday for his heroic actions on the night of the Club Q shooting.Just before midnight on Nov. 19, 2022, after a gunman opened fire inside LGBTQ+ nightclub Club Q, Army veteran Fierro didn't hesitate to protect his family and other clubgoers.For his lifesaving efforts, Fierro received the Lifesaving Military Hero of the Year Award at the American Red Cross Heroes Soirée on Saturday at the Seawell Ballroom in Denver. The award is presented to a member of the armed forces, active or veteran, whose heroic actions demonstrated exceptional courage, according to the Red Cross' website. NEW YORK (AP) — New York Community Bank has agreed to buy a significant chunk of the failed Signature Bank in a $2.7 billion deal, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said late Sunday.The 40 branches of Signature Bank will become Flagstar Bank, starting Monday. Flagstar is one of New York Community Bank’s subsidiaries.
