NEW YORK (AP) — About 160 resident physicians went on strike Monday over what they called low pay at New York City’s Elmhurst Hospital Center, a public hospital once known as the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.The doctors-in-training at the Queens hospital, who are employed by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, are the first doctors to go on strike in the city since 1990, according to their labor union, the Committee of Interns and Residents local of the Service Employees International Union.Mount Sinai “refuses to pay us the same as our coworkers doing the exact same job at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan,” Dr. Joya Dupre, a second-year internal medicine resident at Elmhurst, said in a union statement. ”It feels, fundamentally, like Mount Sinai is saying that this community does not matter. ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — The names of the farmworkers killed and injured Thursday in one of Oregon’s deadliest highway crashes have been released. The Oregon State Police on Monday released the names of the seven people who died and the four who were injured when a semitruck left Interstate 5 and slammed into a van carrying the workers as it was parked on the roadside near Albany, an agricultural area of the Willamette Valley. The people who died were identified as: Eduardo Lopez, 31; Alejandro Jimenez Hernandez, 36; Josue Garcia Garcia, 30; Luis Enrique Gomez Reyes, 30; Javier Suarez, 58; Alejandra Espinoza Carpio, 39; and Juan Carlos Leyva Carrillo, 37. Those with serious injuries have been identified as Maria Flores Martinez, 60; Hector Galindo, 45; and Jose Eduardo Solis Flores, 41. Adan Garcia Garcia, 40, suffered an injury police described as minor. Wilkerson, 56, of Cleveland, was indicted in 2022 on charges including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with records in the fatal stabbing of 46-year-old Brian Weems III of Maple Heights. Oakland A’s announcer fired after use of racial slur on broadcast Wilkerson pleaded guilty last week to amended charges including involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence, court records show. ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Two lifelong friends are making a 3,600-mile bike ride across the nation to raise awareness about organ transplants. Tommy Taylor and JD Norton began their trek from Santa Monica, California, in April and will finish in Boston, Massachusetts, in June."I'm 70, and he's 69," Taylor said. Authorities in Riverside County have issued evacuation orders as they work to contain a wildfire that broke out just west of San Jacinto Monday afternoon.Firefighters responded to reports of the blaze near the Ramona Expressway and Warren Road just after 2 p.m. The Ramona Fire, which was initially reported to be 10 acres, is burning at a “moderate rate of spread,” fire officials said.
