ST. LOUIS - A busy day for St. Louis firefighters across the city. No different from every other day, except even more dangerous when the temperature and heat indices are well over 100 degrees.The day began with a call for a fire in the 4200 block of Delmar Boulevard.“As they were fighting a fire, it was 85 or 90 degrees,” Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson said. “They’re wearing all the equipment. The Colorado Independent Ethics Commission denied a motion to dismiss a complaint against Erie Mayor Justin Brooks on Monday.Erie resident Ryan Kenward, who was previously a candidate for the Erie Board of Trustees and Home Rule Charter Commission in 2022, filed an IEC complaint against Brooks earlier this year. The complaint was found to be nonfrivolous on March 21. In the complaint, Kenward claims that during a 2022 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Board meeting, Brooks pressured the board to award money to Being Better Neighbors, a nonprofit where Brooks serves as president. Brooks was a trustee and the DEI liaison at the time.Kenward previously stated in the initial complaint to the IEC that Brooks used his influence to have the DEI board vote to award the nonprofit. A woman from Barstow was arrested and booked into jail after she allegedly abandoned her baby with a pair of strangers, shortly after she tried to leave him behind a dumpster.It happened Saturday afternoon in Adelanto, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.Deputies were called to the intersection of Highway 395 and Bartlett Avenue around 12:40 p.m. for a welfare check, officials said. A 25-year-old man from Riverside has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a juvenile female in Corona, as well as an attempted kidnapping in Riverside, authorities announced on Tuesday. On July 21, officers with the Corona Police Department responded to reports of a kidnapping and sexual assault that occurred at around 11:30 p.m. Authorities said a 13-year-old girl was allegedly lured into the back of an older model black Mercedes Benz C-class by the suspect, now identified as Roderick Eugene Arline Jr., on Magnolia Avenue, near Tyler Street in neighboring Riverside. “Subsequently, the victim was driven to the area of Sixth Street and Rimpau Avenue in Corona, where she was sexually assaulted,” a Corona PD news release stated. Authorities are searching for a girl who disappeared in Pico Rivera Tuesday.The missing teen was identified as Kimberly Tiffany Reyes Mendoza, 16, by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.Mendoza was last seen on the 4900 block of Lexington Road around 7:05 a.m.She is described as a Hispanic girl standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds with brown eyes and long black hair. She has a burn scar on her right knee, authorities said.Mendoza was last seen wearing a pink sweater, blue pajama pants and red Vans sneakers.The teen’s family is concerned for her well-being as she does not have a history of running away, authorities said. Staff shortages compromise re-entry planning for those locked up pretrial or serving sentences.
