Published Sun, 23 Feb 2025 17:18:58 GMT

Emily Willingham Melatonin is a hormone associated with our sleep-wake cycles, with levels increasing as the sun goes down. For this reason, it’s a popular sleep supplement for adults and children alike, perceived as being fairly harmless and supported by plenty of testimonials praising its positive effects. If your child takes melatonin as a supplement, though, you’ll want to attend to some news about the melatonin content in over-the-counter gummies. According to a recent study published in the medical journal JAMA, the content of these gummies often exceeds what the label claims. With almost a million children in the United States taking melatonin supplements as an aid for sleep or stress relief, these findings are relevant for many families. One reason they matter, the study authors write, is the striking number of calls to poison control centers, which increased from 8,337 in 2012 to 52,563 in 2021. Along with 27,705 urgent or emergent care visits during this time, there wer...

(WTOP/Luke Garrett)The hit TV show “Abbott Elementary” chronicles the lives of teachers at an underfunded and mismanaged public school in Philadelphia. The show is a mockumentary, where the actors are filmed as if they’re subjects in an actual documentary. While the show itself is fiction, “Abbott Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph, who plays veteran teacher Barbara Howard, said the show accurately depicts how little teachers get paid for doing so much. For Ralph, that’s a problem.“How do you expect people to make an actual living?” she said. “How do you expect people to do their best with our greatest natural resource, our children? BERLIN (AP) — Karim Adeyemi is finding his best form just in time for Borussia Dortmund’s title push in the Bundesliga. The 21-year-old Germany forward scored two goals and set up another for Dortmund to pile the pressure on league leader Bayern Munich with a 6-0 rout of Wolfsburg on Sunday. It restored the gap to just one point with three rounds remaining. Adeyemi went off to a standing ovation from the home supporters but was clearly annoyed after missing a penalty and the chance of a hat trick minutes before.“The priority is the team, and not myself. It was very important that we won, but I was very annoyed with myself that I didn’t score the three goals,” he said after what was arguably his best performance for Dortmund since joining from Salzburg last year.Adeyemi showed remarkable athleticism to leap above a taller defender to score the opening goal, then set up Sébastien Haller for the second. The Ivory Coast forward returned the favor for Adeyemi to grab the fifth. The speedy A...
