I entered the club as a man I didn’t know was leaving.“That was Cy’s therapist,” Rose said. “Cy had him come and watch a few deals.”“No more couch-coach sessions,” Cy told me in the lounge. “My guy watched one deal and said he had my problem solved.”Against Cy’s four hearts, West had led a diamond. Cy lost a finesse with dummy’s queen, and East’s club shift gave the defense three more tricks.“Your shrink watched one deal and diagnosed you?” I asked.“He told me I don’t have any complex,” the Cynic said in a tone of relief. “He said I really am inferior.”LAST DIAMONDCy’s play certainly was inferior. Cy must grab the ace of diamonds, take the A-K of spades, lead a trump to dummy and return the jack of spades, pitching his last diamond. If West wins and leads a fourth spade, East can ruff dummy’s ten, but Cy overruffs, leads a trump to dummy and returns the ...Horoscopes Aug. 22, 2023: Ty Burrell, turn a negative into a positive

LONDON (AP) — Chelsea has loaned out of one of its most talented academy prospects amid another transfer window of big spending by the Premier League club.Lewis Hall, an 18-year-old left back, joined Newcastle on Tuesday on a season-long loan deal that includes an obligation for the Saudi-controlled northeast club to make the transfer permanent based on performance-related criteria.Hall, a boyhood Newcastle fan, was named Chelsea’s academy player of the year for the 2022-23 season. But he is deemed surplus at Chelsea, which has spent more than $400 million on new players in this window to take its total outlay in the first three transfer windows in the new regime under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital beyond $1 billion.Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill as options at left back in a season when the team has no European involvement.“Me and my family are Newcastle fans, and for me and my brother growing up, it was drilled into us that we were Newcast...Pakistani Taliban militants have ambushed a military convoy in a border region, killing 6 soldiers

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani Taliban fighters ambushed a military convoy in a former militant stronghold in the country’s northwest near the Afghan border on Tuesday, triggering an intense shootout that killed at least six soldiers and four militants, the military said. The attack took place in South Waziristan, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said in a statement. It said four insurgents were killed when troops returned fire, while two other militants were wounded. The military said a search operation is underway in the area in an effort to hunt down the attackers.Mohammad Khurasani, a spokesman for Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, claimed responsibility for the attack. The Pakistani Taliban are a separate group but are allied with the Afghan Taliban, who took over Afghanistan in August 2021, following the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces from the country. The takeover emboldened the TTP, who often carry out attacks near the Afghan border and el...Pick Six: Can USC’s Caleb Williams join Archie Griffin as a two-time Heisman Trophy winner?

Here we are again.Just like last year, college football has a returning Heisman Trophy winner — this time, USC quarterback Caleb Williams — trying to join the sport’s most exclusive club: Two-time winners of the most prestigious player of the year award.Ohio State running back Archie Griffin stands alone, winning the Heisman in 1974 and ’75.In 2022, Alabama’s Bryce Young became the 11th returning winner since Griffin to be unable to complete the two-fer, undercut by injuries and a Crimson Tide offense that lacked the type of playmakers he had in 2021.Williams, like Young, won the award with a brilliant sophomore season. Not only did Williams pass for 4,537 yards and 45 touchdowns, but he helped Southern California return to national prominence after several years of mediocrity.Winning another Heisman is so hard because voters tend to want the player to be even better the next year. That’d be tough for Williams, but he does have this going for him: USC stumble...Denver weather: Heat continues with cooldown by end of week
